Fun Theme Week Ideas For Your Gymnastics Summer Camp
Have you considered theming your gymnastics summer camp? Theme weeks provide a fun opportunity to engage your gymnasts while working on many different types of movements and skillsets. Themed camps can be exciting and keep your gymnasts mentally and physically involved throughout the week! There are hundreds of camp theme ideas, but here are six of our favorite themes you could try out for your upcoming gymnastics summer camp!
Space Exploration:
Let campers soar to lunar level and rocket past their goals with this theme. Help them wiggle through wormholes, avoid asteroids, and fly out of this world with excitement!
Ideas to get started:
- Hula Hoops as UFOs for floor games/beam walks
- Moonwalking on trampolines or tumbl traks
- Build spaceships as a team activity out of foam blocks or small equipment
- Focus on arms, legs, and jumping to “Blast Off!” during routine
- Dodge Ball, decorate/paint the balls as comets or planets
- Saturn’s Rings Tosses
Under the Sea:
Travel to the big blue for adventures that will surely have your campers ready to grab their flippers and dive into new gymnastics skills.
Ideas to get started:
- Use a bubble machine, or get giant bubble wands
- Decorate bars and equipment with ‘seaweed’ (green streamers or rope)
- Draw jellyfish with chalk and have them ‘bounce’ on jellies like Marlon and Dory from Finding Nemo
- Include a ‘deep sea’ dive for finding stuffed animal sea creatures in foam or ball pits
- Have them crab walk
- Play “Ollie Ollie Octopus”
Circus:
Gymnasts learn circus fun and become the greatest showman with this theme!
Ideas to get started:
- Make a circus parachute tent
- Decorate with balloons and incorporate performance stands with red, yellow, and blue
- Games like: Ball toss, ring toss, mini bowling, Lego fire walks, or juggling
- Practice balance beams like a tight rope
- Use giant rings to swing from as they learn acrobatic skills
- Play Simon Says but make it “Ringmaster Says”
Superhero:
The only place you can build superheroes one somersault at a time. Get ready for your campers to suit up and fight evil during this theme week.
Ideas to get started:
- Allow them to dress in gym-friendly costumes
- Agility Races for superhero training
- Play “The Floor is Lava” with blocks/equipment
- Have them rescue stuffed animals on balance beams/through obstacle courses
- Include trampoline exercises so they can ‘fly’ and challenge one another for the best poses
- Lots of leaping and jumping over all sorts of objects!
Secret Spy:
Watch out! It’s spy time! Let your gymnasts learn super stealthy special skills & stunts.
Ideas to get started:
- Create mazes to unfold the mystery
- Scavenger hunts through an obstacle course

- Incorporate walky-talkies for groups and camp leaders
Summer Mini Olympics:
Follow in the footsteps of Olympians as campers try their hand at different types of Olympic disciplines and go for the gold!
Ideas to get started:
- Have an opening ceremony, let gymnasts introduce themselves, and include an icebreaker game
- Have them create their own countries to represent
- Include different Olympic disciplines beyond gymnastics like track and field, field hockey, volleyball, tennis, or water polo.
- Compete in individual and teams
- Have a closing ceremony at the end of the week for the winners of the events
- Have top camp leaders/staff be judges
